the death and the girl written by Matthias Claudius
Das Mädchen:
Vorüber! Ach vorüber!
Geh wilder Knochenmann!
Ich bin noch jung, geh Lieber!
Und rühre mich nicht an.
Der Tod:
Gib deine Hand, du schön und zart Gebild!
Bin Freund, und komme nicht, zu strafen:
Sei gutes Muts! ich bin nicht wild,
Sollst sanft in meinen Armen schlafen.
(I am sure, you`ll find a better translation, then I am able to do 😉 )
Thanks Ulli.
I’m not surprised that you have been the only one to realize that one of the dancers have a skull for head.
This picture is just one of the many pictures I made in a session which purpose is create a series of self-portraits.
The skull shape was, of course, accidental but I choose this image for its hig emotional impact.
I didn’t know the poem, that I like very much and, yes, it was not difficult for me to find an English translation.
The Maiden:
Pass me by! Oh, pass me by!
Go, fierce man of bones!
I am still young! Go, rather,
And do not touch me.
And do not touch me.
Death:
Give me your hand, you beautiful and tender form!
I am a friend, and come not to punish.
Be of good cheer! I am not fierce,
Softly shall you sleep in my arms!
Schubert composed a string quarter which is also titled “Death and Maiden”
“Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic ’til I’m gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love”
(Leonard Cohen)
Thank you, Leonard´s!!!

Do you mean: Man is saved through the heart?

I saw the form of a heart and the name eonard on it. The picture shows for me a short moment, a second flying away, something not very real.
marcelo leonard said:
Thanks blinkyblanky, I like your interpretation.

good morning, dear Marcelo,
to be honest, I knew only the music of Schubert, that poem I became to know yesterday, I like it too, because death is trying to take the fear away …
“where is no fear, there is no death …”
have a nice day
heartily Ulli

Thanks Ulli.
The poem matches perfectly with the message I try to convey with this picture.
This photograph has to do with renovation, with the celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance.
I wish it had the scent of spring.
