The horror of what is happening, the sheer scale of the oppression and the heinousness of the crime being committed all require us to act but we must act wisely.
Hatred does not cease through hatred.
The depths of the human heart and its capacity for evil and good cannot be measured. There is something wrong with everything, and it begins in the heart of mankind. As a person of faith, my heart is no different than that of the terrorist…..but for the grace of God. Evil and sin are very real. So is love, grace and forgiveness… we are all seeking a cure, and we better pay attention to what we determine to be the cure…. which is impossible unless we identify the disease.
Thanks Carlos for your insightful and thoughtful comment
I think that it is only by eradicating poverty and ignorance that we will definitively defeat terrorism.
Marcelo: I understand that there can be a connection with socio-economics, education and social (or anti-social) behavior. History also teaches us that very wealthy and highly educated people have committed heinous acts of violence and terrorism.
I agree with you Carlos, evil can nestles in all the hearts, but fanaticism finds ideal breeding conditions in countries plagued by hunger, poverty, poor health, and continuing instability.
When I talk about culture, I am referring to understanding, knowledge and tolerance of people with diverse cultural roots. Apart from helping people in need to achieve a better quality of life and an improved outlook for the future, we must work towards educating people to respect others, to hold dialogue and to show tolerance to ethnic, political and religious diversity.
Perhaps there may not be an answer to help us understand this criminal behaviour but, in my opinion, there is a way to stop this madness: The removal of poverty, backwardness and ignorance must be first on the list if we really want to combat terrorism.

Absolutely, thanks for your words Marcelo.
I trust that our societies and our governments to act with a well thought out policy.
No preguntes, no te vayan a responder.

Agreed.
We all ask this question and at times we do not know the answers. Innocent people loose their lives and we do not know why.
Thanks Debby
The killing of innocent civilians in order to spread terror is despicable to the values of all civilizations.
m
Indeed….Why? To create Chaos in the world, disrupt everything so Evil can take over. They Must N0t Succeed.
Thanks Paula
I am not able to understand to people who kill in the name of twisted ideological or religious interpretations.
m
You might well ask…..
Thanks Susan
I have spent my whole wrestling with the question of evil, its origin and effects but I still have no answer to this.
m
I don’t think there are answers….

But easier said than done….
Still, it could be worth a try.
